The Interpretors of our Game
They sit outside the temple doors These men of interpretation with Saxaphone and guitar and drum Awaiting the final out of the umpire.
Fans bring their joy or disappointment Onto the streets where chilly air Greets them on a fall evening Where October dreams still live.
The saxaphone strikes up “O when the saints come marching in” When the team has won again In this drama of pitcher and hitter.
On those nights when the locals Despair of their favorites' efforts The mournful drum fittingly agrees Slowly tapping some Louie Bellson blues.
You don't need to know the score When you stroll down the street On a fall night where musicians play Their interpretation of our game.
